According to Statistics Canada, outdoor tourism is increasing world-wide, including in Canada, where this industry has grown 15 percent annually over the past five years.
Bordered to the north by the Shickschock Appalachian Mountains and to the south by the Baie-des-Chaleurs, the Gaspé Peninsula is an exceptional region highly conducive to the establishment of tourism-related businesses, especially those involving health and nature/adventure tourism. Over the years, this region has also become a world-class year-round tourist destination, due to its location between the ocean and the mountain.
Furthermore, Baie-des-Chaleurs is the cradle of thalassotherapy (the medical use of seawater) in North America. Two reputable establishments, the Centre Aqua-Mer in Carleton and the Auberge du Parc in Paspébiac have been providing quality care in this area for several years.
